HANOVER COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - Hanover County leaders could make a decision Thursday night about a proposed subdivision that's been stirring up controversy.

Giles Farm would add about 450 homes near Atlee High School in Mechanicsville. The planning commission is meeting Thursday night, and this issue will come up.

Atlee Station Road near the 295 interchange is already pretty busy and neighbors fear this Giles Farm subdivision will turn the thoroughfare into a traffic nightmare.

If passed there's a chance this new development will connect to the nearby and quiet Atlee Manor neighborhood, which is something people living there don't want to happen.

Acting planning director David Maloney says that while the traffic and lifestyle concerns are valid there have been plans in place for some time to improve Atlee Station Road in order to accommodate developments like Giles Farm.

The planning commission is meeting Thursday at 7pm at the County Administration Building. Giles Farm is first on the agenda.

In other stories on this proposal, it was made clear that the planning commission's job is to approve projects that make sense long-term, so it is likely that plans for Giles Farm will move forward.
