RICHMOND (WWBT) - The Richmond Raiders announced today that they have signed 15 additional players to contracts for the 2011 season.
The Raiders offensive signings include: JR Cipra (K), Dwayne Delaney (OL), Brandon Isaiah (FB), Rodney Nichols (WR), Chris Sellers (OL), Demarcus Simons (QB/Ath), Orlando Webb (WR) and Antwun Williams.
The Raiders defensive signings include: Dayon Benson (DL), Corey Boston (DL), Danielle Derricott (DB), Corey Ellis (DL), Ahmad Hawkins (DB), Darius Leak (LB) and Brent Trice (DB).
A four year letterman at Vanderbilt, Trice will make his professional debut with the Richmond Raiders. Brent played for Orange HS and FUMA before attending Vanderbilt. Leak begins his third season in Indoor Football with the Raiders. His previous playing experience was with Scranton-WB (AF2). Leak played college football at Morgan State. Hawkins played in the NFL (Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons) and NFL Europe (Berlin Thunder) before finding his niche in Arena Football (Nashville Kats, Colorado Crush). He was the Defensive MVP of Arena Bowl XIX in 2007. Ellis re-signed with the Raiders coming off the best season of his four year professional career. Derricott was a standout player at Virginia Union. a product of Patrick Henry HS (Ashland), FUMA and Marshall University. Played several seasons in the CFL as a DB. Successfully made the transition to the Indoor Game in 2010. Boston joins the Richmond Raiders after a career as a three year starter at St. Paul's College. He was chosen to play in the All-American Bowl in 2010 in Charleston, WV. won All-AIFA honors as a DE in 2010 while playing with the Reading Express; leading the league in sacks. Dayon is a veteran of four years of Indoor Football (IFL, AF2) and was a standout performer at Central State (Ohio) University.
Williams starred at Virginia State after a great career at Prince George HS. He is a four year veteran of Indoor Football; most of which has been spent in AF2. New to the Indoor game; Orlando Webb is a graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan where he is currently an Assistant Football Coach. Demarcus is a product of Benedict College where he played both DB and QB. 2010 will be his rookie season. - This Newport News product played college football at East Carolina; lettering 2 years at offensive tackle. Also played some DL at East Carolina. 2011 will be his rookie season. former Louisburg Junior College performer that starred locally at Meadowbrook HS. Rodney will begin his professional career with the Raiders. Former UVA FB & LB, Brandon Isaiah is a veteran of Indoor Football (AF2 & IFL). Brandon is a counsellor and Assistant Football coach at Charlottesville HS. returns to Central Virginia (Amelia HS graduate) after a solid career at Morgan State. Dwayne played center & guard for the Arkansas Twisters of the IFL in 2010. 8 year Indoor/Arena veteran. JR earned 1st Team All-AIFA honors while leading all scoring among AIFA kickers. JR has been on 2 Indoor championship teams; in 2006 with the Canton Legends and in 2010 with the Baltimore Mariners.
The Richmond Raiders will hold open tryouts at the Richmond Coliseum on Saturday, December 11th from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm. Tryouts will be led by Raiders Head Coach Chris Simpson. Simpson led the Baltimore Mariners to the 2010 American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) Championship as well as to a perfect 14-0 regular season record.
