Man charged in fatal hit-and-run denied bond in Henrico

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A man charged with felony hit-and-run in a fatal crash on I-295 in Henrico County was arraigned this morning. A judge denied him bond.

Brian K. Smith, 33, of Highland Springs was arrested around 7:40 p.m. Saturday after an anonymous tip call to police. He's being held without bond at the Henrico County Jail.

The crash killed 35-year-old Linwood Miles Junior. Miles was pulled over on the right shoulder at around 1 a.m. Saturday morning after his car stalled.

That's when police say Miles got out of the car, only to be hit by an oncoming vehicle.

Police are reminding drivers to use caution when stopped on the side of the road.

"It's dangerous out there on the interstate when you're exposed to that traffic an accident can happen at anytime," said State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar. "Anytime you see a vehicle on the shoulder of a road we urge you to change lanes safely."

If you do pull over call State Police by dialing #77 and a trooper will help you.
