RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - State health inspectors put some local restaurants on notice to keep things clean in this Restaurant Report.

Starting in Henrico, City Lights of China at 12391 Gayton Road had 4 critical violations. The report says several food containers in use were not clean. The inspector asked that they be cleaned and sanitized before they're reused. One violation was corrected during the inspection. A follow-up inspection report is not yet available, but the restaurant had a perfect score on its previous inspection. We contacted management, but did not receive comment.

Moving to Hanover, China Star at 9531 Kings Charter Drive had 5 critical violations. The inspector wrote that the sheet trays and rice cooker from the previous day that are used to prepare or store food, still had accumulations of food residue. The report says they should be cleaned every four hours to prevent the growth of micro-organisms. All the violations were corrected while the inspector was still on site and the restaurant had a perfect score on a follow-up inspection. The manager also declined to comment.

But the this week's NBC 12 Hall of Fame winner had a lot to say about his staff. "I just properly train them in the health procedures to keep them going in that direction," said General Manager Thomas Donnelly. Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen inside Chesterfield Towne Center hasn't had a single violation on a state health inspection since 2007. Donnelly says his staff treats the kitchen like its their own. "I took the safe serve class and got certified, and I try to pass that along to the employees like they're going to run their own restaurant, try to give them a future, too."
