Massey Energy may be forced to close mine

Posted by Shawn Maclauchlan

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond-based Massey Energy may soon be forced to shutdown one of its mines.

The U.S. Department of Labor filed an unprecedented federal lawsuit seeking to close a coal mine in Kentucky until the company fixes violations and comes up with a way to prevent them in the future.

The Labor Department has never sought an injunction to protect coal miners before, but is considering several more lawsuits.
