RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - We should find out today if a Chesterfield County man is competent to go on trial for his wife's murder. This happened earlier this year outside a pizza shop in the county.
Earlier this summer, investigators say 56-year-old Richard Parker went to Pietro's Pizzeria and started shooting.
Now we'll find out if Parker is competent to go through with a trial.
Chesterfield police say he shot and killed his wife Cindy, along with shooting Michael Dudley. Dudley stepped in to break up the chaos -- he was shot in the stomach.
"I just saw this guy beating his wife up, and at first I wasn't going to do anything because I figured somebody else would jump in. But then nobody was moving, so I wasn't thinking, I just threw my hat and took off running," said Dudley.
Parker is now facing several charges: first degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding along with two firearm charges.
A few months ago, a sanity evaluation of Parker was ordered. We expect to find out if a judge thinks Parker can go through a trial Monday.
Parker's hearing is set for 1 p.m.
We'll update you on air and online as soon as we find out what happens in court.
