Peripheral edema

HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) - Dr. John Clay is treating peripheral edema, or the swelling of extremities Primary Health Group-Hopewell.

Usually peripheral edema occurs in the lower legs and it may worsen during the day and then improve by morning.

It may be caused by medications, abnormal veins in the legs, congestive heart failure, or blood clots.

Without treatment you can face worsening fluid accumulation, unilateral swelling or pain, shortness of breath, or chest pains.
