RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The look of public housing in Richmond is one step closer to changing forever.
According to the Times-Dispatch, the Housing Authority's Board of Commissioners approved an agreement for a 50-acre project.
That project would go up where the now demolished Dove Court used to be in the Highland Park neighborhood.
The Housing Authority wants to build a new Overby Sheppard Elementary and have it be the center of a new community.
In addition to the school, the 50-acre project would also include 311 mixed income units for sale and rent.
This will all be done over five phases.
Construction is expected to start in the spring of 2012 so the first family's can move in during the summer of 2015.
