RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Friday wraps up National School Bus Safety Week, and that means you could see more police officers patrolling your child's bus stop in Henrico this morning.

Officers are stepping up patrols - they have already ticketed several people this week for running the flashing red bus lights at a bus stop.

The problem is, where there is no median in the road, you must stop in both directions for the flashing red lights on the bus. Now police are targeting those who ignore this rule.

33 reckless driving tickets have been given out by Henrico police so far this year. 36 were given out in all of last year.

And police have this warning for you, despite the end of the stepped up patrols today.

"We are not going to stop this week. Even though this is National School Bus Safety week, we are going to continue to enforce this," said Sgt. A.J. Gordon.

If caught, you could face up to a $2,500 fine and jail time if you get one of those reckless driving tickets.
