CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - On Thursday Radford University will remember a student who died last week. The Chesterfield man was found dead in an off campus apartment.

Loved ones describe 20 year-old Sam Mason as a fabulous kid, a wonderful brother and son. His mother says he was pledging a fraternity and things went too far.

Now that fraternity is taking action. The national headquarters of Tau Kappa Epsilon has temporarily suspended the Radford University chapter.

Samuel Mason's mother says her son drank too much at a frat party the night before he died.

A search warrant shows that friends told police they walked Mason to an apartment complex to "sleep off the intoxication." It's not known if hazing is to blame.

Police are investigating what role alcohol may have played in his death. The frat says it will launch an internal investigation after Radford Police closes theirs.

Mason's vigil is Thursday at 7pm on Heth Lawn at Radford. Everyone is invited and is encouraged to wear tie-dyed clothes.

Samuel Mason's funeral is Saturday.
