RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A former Chesterfield elementary school teacher is now out of a job and on the sex offender registry.

Former teacher Steven Curtis is now living in a motel along Midlothian Turnpike. We tried to talk to him Wednesday, but he gave us no comment.

The district fired Curtis as soon as he was sentenced for filming an underage boy last spring. Steven Curtis worked as a 5th grade teacher at Winterpock Elementary School.

In some old documents that we found still posted on the Internet we learned Curtis went to PTA meetings, and talked at a school board budget hearing.

Now he's a registered sex offender in the Commonwealth.

Last spring Curtis was arrested for taping an underage boy, and he was charged with a sex crime. He was immediately placed on administrative leave by Chesterfield Schools.

In September Curtis pled guilty to the crime. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison, but all of that was suspended.

While Curtis spent every day with kids in the classroom, there is no evidence that any of his students were threatened.  The school district tells us it "has been assured through law enforcement that this incident does not involve the school or the school division."

Right now Curtis is on probation, along with being listed on the state sex offender registry.
