ASHLAND, VA (WWBT) - Tuesday night Ashland Town Council is considering a proposal to limit hotel and motel stays.

Ashland Police Chief Doug Goodman says the main goal is to reduce crime. According to the chief, between 2008 and this August, police responded to 1,500 911 calls at Ashland hotels and motels.

The calls range from people locking their keys in their cars to narcotics violations and prostitution.

Under the proposal, people would be prevented from staying at a motel longer than three months in any six month period.
