Gas line repair near Hanover Airport prompts 911 calls

HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - Wednesday afternoon, Virginia Natural Gas purged a gas line at the Hanover Industrial Air Park near the Hanover Airport.

The odor in the air prompted many people to call 911.  Hanover Communications reports receiving more than 100 phone calls.

Virginia Natural Gas assures NBC12 that no one was in any danger.  The company says a valve was damaged Tuesday which caused a small gas leak.  Crews made temporary repairs on Tuesday. They returned Wednesday to purge the line and make the permanent repair.  Due to weather conditions, the gas did not dissipate as they expected.
