RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - On the first day of Governor McDonnell's energy conference, Google announced it is about to invest in a number of offshore wind farms along the east coast.
The Times-Dispatch reports, the search engine company wants to invest $5 billion, over the next 10 years, in wind energy such as wind turbines.
The project would run as far as 20 miles offshore from Virginia to New Jersey.
The first phase of the project would use enough wind energy to power about 500,000 homes.
Google is teaming up with other technology companies to fund this plan.
