RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - America's favorite past time is currently played at The Diamond but if some get their way, the Richmond Flying Squirrels could be hitting it out of the park a little further south on the Boulevard.

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the city of Richmond may be looking to the 30-acre Parker Field complex just south of The Diamond.

Right now, the area is used as a maintenance site for city vehicles.

The city would outsource its fleet operations instead, making room for a possible ball park.

But Mayor Dwight Jones hasn't discussed a site or timetable for a new stadium.

Top brass with the Flying Squirrels and minor league baseball say a new park is necessary to ensure the long-term future of baseball in Richmond.

Mayor Jones says he's meeting with team owners this week.
