NBC12 Viewpoint: Great weekend for giving in Richmond

By Don Richards, NBC12 Regional Vice President and General Manager

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - All eyes are downtown this week as one tradition is saved and the Richmond Folk Festival takes center stage.

Dominion Resources saved the 27th annual Richmond Christmas Parade from marching into the history books. Dominion has pledged $100,000 over two years, and they replace former sponsor Ukrop's, who is now history.

Without Dominion's support, the parade, by any name chosen, would have reached a dead end. Dominion deserves our thanks.

The Richmond Folk Festival is live and well this weekend. This immensely popular event attracts nearly 200,000 people downtown for three days and nights of eclectic, electric and unplugged folk music on seven stages. Not to mention food, drink, crafts and a chance to chill with friends.

It is amazing and free. Venture Richmond and local sponsors foot the bill but you can help. Make sure you throw $5 in the bucket as a donation. It's still a bargain.

So all eyes, save one, are downtown this week. If you know the whereabouts of the  Science Museum's missing eye, please encourage the borrower to return the pupil to it's class. It would be a nice way to wrap up a great week in Richmond.
