Animal cruelty case goes to court

Posted by Shawn Maclauchlan

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A Henrico man is expected in court Thursday. He's accused of pouring motor oil on a kitten and exposing himself to police.

56-year-old James Porch was arrested back in August.

His neighbor says Porch poured motor oil on "Midnight," a black kitten.

Betty Alvis, the cat's owner, says her kitty couldn't even open its eyes after what happened in her Highland Springs neighborhood.

She says Midnight is doing fine after she used lots of dishwashing liquid to get rid of globs of oil.

She called police and confronted Porch.

"I said, 'Why you put motor oil on my cat?' He said, 'I did it for the fleas, I didn't want it up in my building,'" said Alvis.

After he was taken into custody, police say he became "somewhat uncooperative." They say Porch exposed himself and, while doing that, he made a crude remark to officers.

He's been charged with indecent exposure and animal cruelty.

We will be in the courtroom and bring you what happens as soon as we know, on air and online.
