PRINCE GEORGE, VA (WWBT) - The right lane of Interstate 95 north at mile marker 43 in Prince George County has been reopened after a body was found in a swamp.
Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what happened and who this person is.
Police say a truck driver passing by noticed a man's body lying face up in the swamp about 5 to 10 feet off that part of the highway. When investigators got to the scene they found a badly decomposed body lying in about 5 feet of water in an area called Warwick Swamp.
The male victims body was recovered by members of the Virginia State Police Search and Recovery Dive Team from Warwick Swamp shortly before 3:30 p.m. this afternoon and was transported to the State Medical Examiners Office in Richmond for positive identification and to determine cause of death.
We know that several streams dump into this swamp area and investigators aren't saying whether they believe the body was initially dumped here.
Special Agents with the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Richmond Field Office, are continuing their investigation into the unattended death.
