Police vehicle crashes while preparing for Obama motorcade

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A Virginia State Police cruiser crashed while assisting in the preparation for President Barack Obama's arrival in Richmond Wednesday.

At 3:40 p.m., while assisting in conducting a protective sweep in preparation of the Presidential Motorcade and prior to the motorcade coming through the area, Trooper A. K. Dunivan was involved in a single motor vehicle crash in his state police cruiser.

The crash occurred when his vehicle hydroplaned during the heavy rain causing his vehicle to run off the roadway to the left and struck the jersey wall on Route 150 northbound approximately 2/10 of a mile south of Route 1.

Dunivan was not injured in the crash and was wearing his safety belt at the time.  Dunivan did have his emergency lights activated at the time of the crash and traveling at the posted speed limit. The crash investigation is ongoing.
