HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - Shortly before noon Friday, Virginia State Police responded to a tractor-trailer fire on southbound Interstate 95 just south of Route 30/Kings Dominion exit (mile marker 98) in Hanover County.
As of 3:45 p.m. all lanes in both directions were reopened and the scene has been cleared.
A 2001 Kenworth tractor caught fire causing the trailer and some of the trash to also catch fire. As the driver attempted to pull to the left shoulder, the front left drivers tire came off and crossed all northbound lanes of travel onto the right shoulder.
The tire was on fire as it crossed the northbound lanes coming to rest in the wood line and causing a brush fire. No other vehicles were involved and there were no injuries as a result of the fire. Traffic was backed up in both directions for several miles.
The driver was traveling from Hagerstown, Md., to Chesterfield with a full load of trash. The tractor cab was a total loss.
