RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Universities in Richmond and across the state are on alert after more than a dozen crimes on and off campus.

Police and school administrators want students to know they are targets for crime.

It's not just happening in one area, they are widespread - near the more secluded surrounding of the University of Richmond and the more urban setting near VCU.

The Fan district has been hit the hardest by criminals.

Last Friday, armed robbers struck four times in just 15 minutes, a couple of blocks from VCU.

Two of the victims were students - one of them knocked down, beaten and kicked.

The next day, four students were robbed near the Siegel Center.

People we talked to say they still feel safe, but take extra precautions.
