DOSWELL, VA (WWBT) - The 2010 State Fair of Virginia has officially kicked off. It opened Thursday morning at 10 a.m. for the second year at its new location near Kings Dominion in Caroline County.

When folks come to Meadow Event Park in Caroline County, they will notice some changes to parking and traffic flow.

Big attendance days at last year's State Fair caused long back-ups on Interstate 95 at the Doswell exit and Route 30. This year traffic from I-95 will be brought in at a different entrance, and the parking fee will be eliminated to help speed up that process. Instead, you'll pay two extra bucks per ticket.

You'll also see more trams on the property this year. Once you are parked, you'll be able to catch one to the ticket plaza, and from there you can catch others to the entertainment area or here to the agricultural tents.

Last year, nearly 250,000 people came to the fair and event organizers are hoping for a similar or even bigger turnout.

The first day alone, the fair is hosting more than 2,500 students from schools all around Virginia.

The State Fair of Virginia runs from September 23 to October 3. For more information like ticket prices and hours, click on 12 About Town.
