CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - A person is in the hospital after being ejected from their car after an accident on Interstate 295.

State Police wrapped up the on-scene investigation around 6am Wednesday morning. The crash happened around 12:30am on Interstate 295 near Route 10, that's close to the Varina-Enon Bridge.

This all happened in a work zone. VDOT workers were doing a pavement project, closing two of the three lanes.

A man driving a Toyota Tundra merged into the only lane that was open, and that's when a Toyota 4-Runner hit the truck. That driver lost control, and the SUV flipped several times, throwing the driver about 15 feet.

That driver is now in the hospital in critical condition. Troopers say he wasn't wearing his seatbelt and there may be charges.
