State Police wrapped up the on-scene investigation around 6am Wednesday morning. The crash happened around 12:30am on Interstate 295 near Route 10, that's close to the Varina-Enon Bridge.
This all happened in a work zone. VDOT workers were doing a pavement project, closing two of the three lanes.
A man driving a Toyota Tundra merged into the only lane that was open, and that's when a Toyota 4-Runner hit the truck. That driver lost control, and the SUV flipped several times, throwing the driver about 15 feet.
