AMELIA, VA (WWBT) – A Richmond man is behind bars after leading sheriff's deputies on a chase that spanned three counties.
It all started on Rt. 360 in Amelia where deputies say 45-year-old Richard Johnson hit a vehicle and drove off.
A deputy with the county intercepted Johnson and attempted to pull him over.
That's when authorities say Johnson refused to stop.
The pursuit lead north to Rt. 60 into Cumberland County and then east into Powhatan.
The chase ended without incident on Rt. 609 in rural Powhatan.
Johnson was arrested and faces a multitude of charges including DUI, felony hit-and-run and reckless driving.
The sheriff's office reports that there were no significant injuries though several county vehicles were damaged.
Authorities say Johnson is a habitual offender and claim he was intoxicated when they made the arrest.
