PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) -  The buzz has been building over the new NBC show The Event.

A screening party at VSU campus Saturday evening drew hundreds of fans.

Star of the TV drama and Petersburg native Blair Underwood took center stage at the premiere.

Fan Arinna McDaniel was the first in line.

She was thrilled the time has come.

"I got up early," she said. "I wanted to make sure I was here. I didn't want to miss out."

Robin Magee shares the sentiment.

"I'm excited to be here," she said. "Especially since he's from Petersburg."

Magee says there's no way she would have missed out on this event or her favorite actor.

"I'd love to see Blair Underwood shirtless," she said. "Maybe a few love scenes."

Underwood walked the red carpet with his family.

He shared his pride knowing thousands had to vote for the premiere party to be held in his hometown.

The city won the honor in a national online contest.

"It's humbling first of all. Something I'm very grateful for," he said. "It's about the community coming together doing something for a common cause and that's what's exciting."

Hundreds of people filled VSU's gym including city leaders.

"They (residents) were so proud of Blair," said Mayor Annie Mickens. "They said they wanted to make him proud of us -- that we would do this."

And they did.

"I love Hollywood. I love what I do," Blair said. "But I love this town. I love Petersburg - the people of this city."

After the screening folks we spoke with gave the show a thumbs up.

Underwood describes it a high octane thriller.

Now that this event is over, the star is hoping you'll tune in for the television debut of the show.

The Event will air on NBC12 Monday night at 9:00 p.m.
