Mandatory water restrictions in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield County is going ahead with mandatory water restrictions starting Wednesday. If you don't follow those restrictions, get ready to pay up.

If you're on the side of the block with odd addresses, you can't water your lawn today every day under these new mandatory water restrictions. If you do, you could be facing some hefty fines!

For the past couple of days people like Martha Matthews have been setting up sprinklers ... To save these brown lawns, but if she or anyone else in the county doesn't follow the rules they're going to get hit in the wallet. The first offense could set you back $100.

Martha has an address that ends with an odd number. So she's limited to watering on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. For people with even addresses, you can water on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. No watering is allowed on Monday.

During the restriction you can get away with watering with a bucket, but you can only use 5 gallons per day.

If you are worried about your car, you can wash it once a week with a hose that has a shut off valve at the end.
