Group calling on Governor to stop execution

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - There is some concern that Virginia is about to execute a woman who may be mentally challenged.

The ARC of Virginia, a group that advocates for Virginians with Developmental Disabilities, is asking Governor McDonnell to stop the execution of Teresa Lewis.

She was convicted of hiring two men to kill her husband and stepson.

ARC claims Lewis' IQ falls within the range of someone who's mentally challenged, meaning it's unconstitutional for her to be executed.

Lewis would be the first female to be executed in Virginia since 1912.
