CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – Back to school shopping is ruined for one family after an armed robber made off with the money they were going to use for school supplies.
A Chesterfield mom was robbed, at gunpoint, while she sat in her own car outside a drug store on Meadowdale Boulevard. It happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday night.
The victim was sitting in the front seat of her car when the robber jumped into the backseat. He demanded all the cash she had, money she needed for her children's upcoming first day of school.
"He had the gun right here and he said give me all your money and everything you got," said robbery victim Kathleen Soety. "I looked at him and I said, 'are you for real?' And he said, 'yeah or I'll blow your effin head off!'"
Soety came face to face with her armed robber on Wednesday in a Walgreens parking lot. Someone forced their way into her van as she and a friend sat in her car.
"I was kind of shocked. I didn't know what to say," said witness, Kristian Ballard. "I didn't move. I didn't talk to him. Nothing!"
The man got away with $375 -- money Soety needed for school supplies for her three girls.
"It's horrible when you have to tell your children that you don't have any money to get them anything....right when school is starting," said Soety.
Security cameras likely captured the entire incident. Right now it's under investigation with Chesterfield Police. Soety and her family are trying to figure out what to do next as they wait for this armed robber to be caught.
"He's pretty much ruined me going school shopping and getting supplies for my kids, and makes me even scared to even have my windows and doors unlocked when I thought I was in a safe area," she said.
