CAROLINE COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - A woman was shot outside a Caroline County Chevron gas station on Route 207 just off Interstate 95.

The female was shot just after 6 p.m. Wednesday night after an altercation with three men. She was taken to the hospital where she is expected to recover.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ruther Glen Chevron Station, Thomas Jeter, 28, and his girlfriend Ashley Hillary, 24, became involved in a heated argument in the parking lot with Joshua Williams, 18, Claudell Fells, 20, and Austin Morris, 18.

The argument turned to gunfire when investigators say Fells shot Hillary and fled the scene on foot along with his suspected accomplice Morris.

Tracking canines from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office, a Virginia State Police helicopter, numerous Virginia State Police Officers, and members from the Chesterfield County Police Department all responded to Caroline County to aid in the search for Fells and Morris.

Both men were safely taken into custody without incident by midnight, according to police

"The driver stayed here so the driver has been very cooperative for us and we're not sure what created the altercation," said Caroline County Sheriff Tony Lippa. "Obviously they know each other."
