RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Class is back in session at VCU.  Thursday more than 30,000 students head to their first classes of the fall semester. With that comes some new ways to keep safe on campus.

For freshmen, it's a new experience. For the seniors, it's something that been done time and time again, but no matter what age, the possibility is there for everyone to become a victim of crime.

Recently, crimes in the fan have ranged from smaller problems to armed robberies. So with that in mind, campus police say at any time there will be than 10 officers patrolling the campus.

Not only that, but school leaders have started a couple new options to not only keep safe, by going green too.

First, a new campus shuttle will run for students, stopping at popular locations on campus.

There also is a new option called Zip Car that you can register for online to rent a car at an hourly rate.
