Burglar breaks in while victim is at work

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – Neighbors are living in fear tonight after hearing of a burglary in their eastern Henrico County neighborhood. It happened on the 1400 block of Young Street, in broad daylight Monday. Right now, the burglar is still on the loose.

Most of the people in that neighborhood had not heard the news. Someone broke into a home on this street and stole several things from inside.

"It's not common because I'm only living here about three years on this block," said resident, Cindy Jones. "I spoke to the other neighbors and they said they don't have that on this block."

While we were there our cameras captured empty streets and didn't see many neighbors coming in and out of their homes. This would be a likely place for a burglar to target.

On Young Street the burglar broke into the victim's home during the hours of 8 and 4, likely when the victim was at work. It's because of situations like this that some neighbors have stepped up their own home security.

"We have Safeguard America, that protection," said neighbor, Phillip Wilson. "If they (break in) the alarm will be sounded and the monitoring company will alert the police."

Neighbors we spoke with say this bold, daylight break-in, may be just the reason they need to start a neighborhood watch group.
