HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – A Henrico woman risks her own safety, trying to catch burglars in the act after they break in to her neighbor's home. This happened on the 100 block of Brookschase Lane in the Windsor on the James subdivision Monday in the middle of the afternoon. The burglars are still on the loose and that woman is stepping her own security now.
"The door was cracked and I went 'Anybody in there?'" said neighbor, Susan Estes.
Estes rushed over before police even arrived after receiving word that her neighbor's home had been burglarized. Someone broke through their door which sounded an alarm. She came out to investigate.
"I came over and the door was ajar and you can see a piece of wood right there still," said Estes.
"It's upsetting but this neighborhood has been targeted before so I'm not terribly surprised," said another neighbor, Dolores Knaysi.
And since the burglars still haven't been caught Dolores Knaysi asked that we not show her face on TV. She afraid the burglars might come back and hit her home.
"I told my children not to open the door unless you know the person," she added.
Neighbors believe the home was likely targeted because the homeowners were out of town when the burglary happened. That's enough reason for them to make sure their homes are properly secured.
"We had an alarm put in our attic so that it's an extra speaker so that it's an outside and an inside alarm," said Knaysi.
"We all need to be very cautious because you never know who's lurking about," added Estes.
The neighbors are thankful no one was hurt during the break-in and don't believe the burglars got away with anything. If you have any information about the incident contact Henrico Police.
