RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – The mother arrested after abandoning the crash site where her two toddlers were found dead in a submerged car will now face murder charges. The boy's bodies were recovered from a river in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The sheriff says the mother confessed...saying she suffocated her children and faked the accident.
He says 29-year-old Shaquan Duley confessed to killing her two toddler sons at a motel. She says she then strapped 18-month-old Ja'van Duley and 2-year-old Devean Duley in their car seats and drove her car into the river. During her confession the sheriff said Duley told him she was unemployed and living with her mother. The night before the incident she says she got into an argument with her mother who told her she couldn't take care of her kids.
"We believe that her thoughts were, 'for me to be free, for me to do what I wish to do, whatever that may be, if I didn't have the children I would get rid of them,'" said Sheriff Larry Williams.
Duley now faces two murder charges. She's expected to be in court Wednesday to be formally charged. She's being held without bond.
The sheriff also said Duley has a third child, a five-year-old who was with his grandmother at the time all this happened. Click here for more information.
