2 armed robberies in the Fan

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Armed robbers hold up 2 men in Richmond's Fan district - an area NBC12 first told you police have long described as one of the safest neighborhoods in Richmond. It happened in the 2500 block of Grove Avenue, just before 4:00 on Saturday morning.

Believe it or not, the people NBC12 spoke with are getting used to hearing about robberies in this area. One couple even ran inside their home yelling "go away" as we approached them to talk about the recent incident. Still, people who live here are doing what they can to keep their families safe in this neighborhood.

The empty streets in Richmond's Fan District are quiet Monday night with no sign of what happened early Saturday morning. Two men were robbed at gunpoint by two other men. Neighbors we spoke with, however, didn't seem too surprised.

"All of those incidents are in the middle of the night so I don't feel too concerned because they're not at a time that we're walking with our family," said resident, Susan Brown. "So I do still feel safe."

"This isn't the first time something like this has happened in the fan so it's part of the trade off of living in the city," said Susan's husband David.

Susan and her husband typically walk these streets with their two young children. While safety is their number one concern, they try and keep news of such criminal activity away from their kids.

"They're still young enough that they're not going to be out on their own so again I don't want to get them in a situation where they worry about where they live," said David.

While this incident happened at almost 4 o'clock in the morning, neighbors that we spoke with make sure to have their family members home at a reasonable time.

"They are in by 7:30 or 8 usually," added Susan.

"And certainly not outside by themselves in the evening at all," said David.

Police are still looking for the 2 armed robbers and there's no word on what they got away with. If you have any information contact Richmond police.
