Prosecutors want a joint trial for couple accused of torturing granddaughter

LOUISA, VA (WWBT) – A motions hearing has been set for the Louisa grandfather accused of torturing his 8-year-old granddaughter.

Ronald Jewell is charged with child abuse and cruelty.

According to reports, his granddaughter was bruised, had hair ripped from her head, and had a broken foot.

Jewell's wife, Laura, also faces charges of felony child neglect, cruelty and malicious wounding.

The motions hearing is scheduled for September 3.  Prosecutors want a joint trial with Jewell's wife.
