RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – A Richmond man will serve three years in prison for dogfighting.

Deano Alphonso Jones, 47, pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and entered an Alford plea to the dog fighting charge, meaning he acknowledged there's enough evidence to convict him, but does not admit guilt.

Animal control seized 21 pit bulls from Jones' home in North Richmond. Seventeen of the dogs had to be put down.

In court, Jones denied fighting the dogs, but prosecutors said they also recovered a treadmill, steroids and other items associated with dog fighting.
