RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A judge granted a request Monday by Christopher Speight's attorneys to get more evidence that could prove he is insane.
His attorneys asked for surveillance video and recorded phone calls of Speight while he was being held at Blue Ridge Regional Jail. The commonwealth's attorneys office did not object.
Speight is facing capital murder charges in the deaths of eight people, including his sister, her family, and four other family friends.
Speight has been ruled incompetent to stand trial in June. He is at Central State Hospital in Petersburg. Doctors are working to restore him to competency.
Prosecutors said another competency hearing will likely be scheduled in December.
