RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Some Chesterfield County businesses could soon be required to send daily sales reports to police.

Salvage dealers and pawn shops may have to submit daily electronic reports along with information about the product, seller and buyer beginning this November.

The proposed ordinance is described as an effective way to track stolen merchandise, stems from a decision made by the state legislature earlier this year.

Failure to submit the information could result in a $250 to $2,500 fine.

A public hearing on this matter is scheduled during Wednesday's Board of Supervisors meeting.
