RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - An apartment fire in Richmond goes to two alarms, but not just because it was a big fire.
The flames broke out just after six Friday evening in the 1200 block of Admiral Gravely Boulevard. Firefighters arrived and quickly called for help. Partly because of the oppressive "heat."
"With the heat and humidity we've had to call in some extra crews. That's part of the reasoning they called the second alarm to get some extra resources here. So we're changing our crews out. Richmond Ambulance Authority is here making sure that everybody is in good shape," said Richmond Fire Marshal David Creasy.
In all, it took about 50 firefighters to bring this blaze under control.
Several apartments were damaged, but we don't know exactly how many people were displaced.
The fire marshal was working with apartment management and a Red Cross to find everyone a place to stay.
No word on how the fire started.
