HANOVER COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - It's the end of an era in Hanover County. We've confirmed that Sheriff Stuart Cook is retiring, after 45 years in law enforcement.

The 67-year-old Sheriff's last day will be September 15th.

Cook has been Hanover's Sheriff for the last 20 years.

His term doesn't expire until December 2011.

Lt. Colonel David Hines will step in as Interim Sheriff until the circuit court appoints a successor to fill out the term, or calls for a special election.
