Arrest made in weekend Church Hill murder


RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - An arrest has been made in the homicide of a Richmond man killed in Church Hill over the weekend.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force this morning found and arrested Elsumakeal M. Lamar, 29, for the murder of Keith Bates, 47.  

Lamar was also wanted for aggravated assault, use of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for the shooting of a second victim at the same scene.

The Richmond Police Department would like to thank the community for sharing information with investigators.

A vigil is planned tonight, with friends and family of Bates gathering at 7:30 p.m. in the 700 block of North 35th Street, where he was shot and killed.
