Actor Carl Gordon dies at 78

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A Richmond man honored as a living legend for his extensive work on stage and screen has died.

Acclaimed character actor Carl Gordon passed away after battling Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

The Goochland native began his acting career after serving in the US Air Force.

Gordon performed on Broadway in the Pulitzer Prize winning play "The Piano Lesson," in the films "No Mercy" and "Gordon's War," and several television shows including ER and The Practice.

Gordon gained notoriety in the 90's as the patriarch Andrew on the Fox series "Roc."

He was also active with the local non-profit group "Building the Fire Within."

Family members say a private celebration of his life will take place in Virginia in August.

Carl Gordon died yesterday morning at age 78.
