DINWIDDIE, VA (WWBT) - Search dogs discovered human remains near a canal off Ferndale road Saturday. Investigators were canvassing that area, looking for Randy Marion.
On the night of February 9, 2008, Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office received a report of a missing person, Gerald Randell "Randy" Marion, 27. He had last been seen riding an ATV away from a residence in the 3700 Block of Ferndale Circle.
On the morning of February 10, 2008, the ATV on which Marion was last seen was found overturned in a water-filled canal that runs parallel to the Appomattox River. Multiple search attempts have been made since that date with little success.
With the current drought conditions, the canal's water level where Marion's ATV was located is very low, even dry in some places. On Saturday, Dinwiddie County Sheriff's Office investigators conducted another search of the canal with the assistance of cadaver dogs.
Investigators located what appeared to be human skeletal remains and clothing items in the canal down stream from where Marion's ATV had been located.
The skeletal remains have been transported to the state medical examiner's office in Richmond for identification. At this time no positive identification has been made.
