CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – A car goes up in flames in the driveway of one Chesterfield home...and tonight, the person who did it, is still on the loose. It happened about three in the morning Saturday on the 3000 block of Goolsby Avenue.
The owner was awakened by someone letting him know his car was on fire, and he tried putting it out with a pitcher of water before firefighters arrived. Chesterfield county police are now investigating and say that this fire was no accident.
A charred mess is all that's left of Ermes Luna's Ford Focus. Someone intentionally set it on fire early Saturday morning and almost torched his second car.
"The neighbors came knocking on my door saying 'Cars on fire! Cars on fire!' said Luna. "And I came downstairs and the car was on fire. I was trying to put out myself but it was too late."
Luna lives alone at his home in Chesterfield County. While he has his suspicions as to who's responsible, he had hoped moving to this area was a safe decision.
"I'm from New York," said Luna. "I came out here to do a better life and this is what happens. I only been out here 6 months and this is what--you know, my Ford Focus is done now."
"Everybody just be on their toes that's all I can tell them," said neighbor, Roger Gardner.
Luna is just thankful his neighbor called for help before he lost both of his cars in the fire.
