Public hearing Tuesday to discuss high speed rail corridor

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Virginians For High Speed Rail and the Southeast High Speed Rail Association will hold a public hearing on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Virginia DMV Cafeteria, 2300 West Broad Street.

There will be a public viewing beginning at 5 p.m.; the hearing will begin at 7 p.m. The meeting is being held to discuss the advancement of the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor. The public is encouraged to attend.

Topics to be discussed include current transportation congestion, connectivity access to public transit at Richmond's Main Street Station, Raleigh's Union Station, and the Petersburg Passenger Rail Station, and the expansion of high speed rail connecting the Washington to Petersburg and Raleigh to Charlotte corridors.

City leaders will be in attendance, but residents are encouraged to attend to voice their concerns and offer feedback to the rail entities. Individuals that are unable to attend can mail written comments before August 30, 2010 to the following address:
