Bond set for retired officer charged with DUI after I-295 accident

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Bond for a retired Henrico police officer was set today at $25,000 after an accident in which a construction worker was sent in the hospital after he was hit while working on Interstate 295.

Virginia State Police say Robert Harrison was hit around 12:50 a.m. July 1 on I-295 at Nuckols Road in Henrico County.

Police charged John R. Tucker III, 55, with DUI and refusal to take a breathalyzer test, as well as a refusing to give a blood alcohol sample.

If he makes bail, he's prohibited from drinking alcohol. Any misdemeanor charges that accompanied the accident were dropped. He now faces a single charge of felony DUI maiming.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 4, 1:30 p.m. in Henrico County district court.
