RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A violent morning turns into a violent evening spanning across two ends of Richmond ending in a long standoff between 22-year-old Jataynun Fleming and police.

"We do know that there were two rounds of gas that were put into the room in which he was staying and this is after hours of negotiations in which negotiations broke off. He threw away the phone, the communication device we provided," said Gene Lepley with the Richmond Police Department.

Fleming was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he died.

He was on police radar following a murder earlier in the day on the 2400 block of Wood Street in the East End. When police arrived at this home. They found a 46-year-old man shot and killed.

Just hours after that murder, the SWAT team executed a search warrant a few blocks away that they say was part of the murder investigation.

Right now, police are not sure if Fleming was actually armed with a weapon inside the home. Police are also working to determine who shot Fleming and how many times.
