UPDATE: Arrest made after shooting, robbery in Petersburg

PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - Petersburg Police have arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery and shooting at the Midget Mart in the 1400 block of West Washington Street Monday night.

The suspect, Amin Veney, 28, of the 600 block of West Street, is being held in the Petersburg jail with no bond. Veney is facing numerous charges including, robbery, use of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon and other charges.

Police were able to make the swift arrest due to citizen cooperation and Crime Solvers tips.

Petersburg police responded to the Midget Mart at around 10 p.m. Monday night after reports of a person shot and commercial robbery.

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money before shooting the victim and fleeing on foot, heading southwest from the store.

The bullet entered the victim's abdomen and he underwent surgery and is now recovering, according to police.
