Virginia gets new Amtrak service

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Virginia is pouring in money for Amtrak to begin a new passenger train between Richmond and Washington D.C.

According to the Times-Dispatch, this new service will start July 20.

The $25 million project is to help run two passenger trains daily to Washington: one round trip from Staples Mill Station. The other service from Lynchburg.

The project is a test to decide if passenger train service would be used by enough people.

Ticket prices may change, but Amtrak's website posted a $30 one-way fare for the train's first trip.
