Henrico County looking to save thousands

HENRICO COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - Henrico County is looking at some permanent changes in order to emerge from the economic downturn in good shape.

In his "State of the County Address" this week, County Manager Virgil Hazelett said the county will pursue more fuel efficient vehicles, saving thousands of dollars.

Hazelett said the county is also eliminating more than 100 open positions, while maintaining a hiring freeze in the next fiscal year.

While the county has, so far, avoided layoffs and tax hikes Hazelett warned the coming year will still be difficult because of uncertain state aid.
